BROADCAST: Twofour & Little Gem tie for E4 format

Youth channel orders Five Star Hotel

Little Gem has tied up with Twofour to produce a celebrity hotel format for E4.

The youth-skewing broadcaster has ordered 15 x 60-minute Five Star Hotel from the two firms in association with Motion Content Group, formerly known as GroupM Entertainment.

The show, slightly reminiscent of Optomen’s Hotel GB, follows a team of five celebrities as they attempt to deliver five-star service at a boutique Mediterranean hotel.

The celebrities must wait on the guests, arranging excursions including stag parties on yachts in order to keep their rating.

The show was created by fledgling indie How To Lose Weight Well producer Little Gem, which partnered with Twofour to land the multi-million pound order.

Five Star Hotel was commissioned by C4 head of formats Dom Bird and formats commissioning editor Kate Maddigan.

Bird said: “What could be better than a summer break in the sun, with all your needs taken care of by a team of celebrities?”

It is exec produced by Little Gem’s Ben Gale and Natasha Bondy, Twofour’s Caroline Davies and Andrew Mackenzie and Motion Content Group’s Abigail Adams.

The show is currently casting and Bondy said that the producers were keen to hear from potential guests.

“They may be in the hands of stars more used to being waited on themselves but it’s no good being a star if you haven’t learnt a thing or two about throwing the perfect pool party or serving a mean cocktail,” she added.

Five Star Hotel is the latest example of a smaller company joining forces with a more established firm in order to secure business.

Last month, Sharp Jack Media founders Elliot Johnson & Amanda Wilson moved to Endemol Shine to form Sharp Jack TV, while Sky entertainment chief Phil Edgar jones urged smaller indies to partner up to win commissions.

“It’s not just about the idea, it’s about the ability to deliver the idea. That’s key to everything,” he said.
