Little Gem wins first commission

Ben Gale and Natasha Bondy's Little Gem has landed its first commission as part of an order for three BBC1 shows described as “factual entertainment with purpose".

The indie, founded last month by the former Maverick and Princess Productions execs, was set up with the intention of making “feelgood factual" and will produce the 1 x 60-minute Best Day Ever (w/t) for BBC1. In the format, unsuspecting heroes win deserved recognition through secret-camera and ambush stunts involving friends and family.

Gale will executive produce, alongside BBC head of commissioning for factual, features and formats Alison Kirkham.

The latter commissioned the programme alongside BBC1 controller Charlotte Moore, who described it as “factual entertainment with purpose" – something she wants to see more of on the channel.

  • Title Best Day Ever (w/t)
  • Channel BBC1
  • Production company Little Gem
  • Executive producers Ben Gale and Alison Kirkham
